Isco Alarcón has undergone arthroscopic surgery this afternoon in Madrid to correct an intra-articular injury in the cartilage of his right ankle. This injury was sustained on November 27 during a match against Utrecht at La Cartuja, when he received a severe kick from his teammate Sofyan Amrabat in a completely accidental incident.

The club’s press release states:
“Isco Alarcón underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle today. Initially, the player followed a conservative treatment plan involving growth factor injections. However, as anticipated, in the event of negative progression, the player, together with Dr. Leyes and the medical team of Real Betis, have jointly decided to advance the therapeutic process and perform a joint cleaning in the affected area today. The recovery timeline will depend on his progress.”

This minor procedure will keep Isco sidelined for at least another month. He has managed to play only 39 official minutes this season, including nine minutes on the pitch against Utrecht in the Europa League before sustaining the injury, and thirty minutes in LaLiga against Girona.
