Jamal Musiala is poised to make his return to the Bayern Munich squad, nearly six months after sustaining a broken left leg and dislocated ankle during a Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern Munich’s head coach, Vincent Kompany, announced that Musiala could possibly participate in the upcoming Bundesliga fixture against RB Leipzig this Saturday.

The 22-year-old German international suffered his injury in early July of the previous year after colliding with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup. Since then, he has been sidelined from competitive play.

“If all goes well today, the plan is that he will be there,” Kompany stated on Friday. “Jamal is radiating a lot of positive energy as he emerges from this challenging period. Even the minor milestones in his recovery feel significant. I encourage my players to cherish the joy of returning to the field.”

Prior to his injury, Musiala had an impressive 2024-25 season, scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions, contributing to Bayern’s Bundesliga triumph. Additionally, he was a crucial player for Germany during Euro 2024, netting three goals in five matches, and he is eager to leverage his return to enhance his prospects for the 2026 World Cup.

Kompany emphasized that there is no immediate pressure on Musiala or fellow teammate Alphonso Davies, who is also back in the squad, to perform at their peak right away. Davies, 25, returned in December after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out at the beginning of the season.

“I do not expect them to be the decisive factors in our games right from the start,” Kompany remarked. “My focus is on their gradual reintegration and ensuring they reach peak performance levels in due time.”
