Javi Mart nez Steps Up as Interim Coach for Sevilla Following Almeyda s SuspensionJavi Mart nez Steps Up as Interim Coach for Sevilla Following Almeyda s Suspension

omidbasir- The seven-match suspension imposed on Matías Almeyda leaves a leadership void on the Sevilla bench, which will now be filled by Javi Martínez. The second coach, who previously led the team during the eighteenth round of the league against Levante, while Almeyda served his suspension for a dismissal at the Santiago Bernabéu, will now bear a greater responsibility. Sevilla’s upcoming fixtures include matches against Getafe, Betis, Rayo Vallecano, Barcelona, Valencia, Oviedo, and Atlético de Madrid.

A native of Sevilla, Javi Martínez has been with the club since he was eight years old. He played as a right winger for Sevilla Atlético, sharing the dressing room with notable players such as Juan Cala, Antonio Luna, Campaña, Luis Alberto, and Diego Perotti. After stints with Huesca, Zaragoza, Orihuela, Nástic, L’Hospitalet, and Europa of Gibraltar, he hung up his boots at 28 to begin his coaching career within Sevilla. With a degree in Sports Sciences and a UEFA Pro license, he initially worked as a scout for the youth teams before becoming the right-hand man to Jesús Galván in the Sevilla B team last season, leading to his ascension to the first team.

Earlier today, Jesús Galván provided insight into Javi Martínez during an interview with Radio Marca Sevilla. “He is a highly prepared, loyal, and honest individual with an excellent approach. I believe he knows how to connect with the first coach, and the difference will not be noticeable,” stated Galván, who was recently his colleague. He emphasized that Martínez possesses the talent and knowledge to effectively communicate with the players.

Regarding Martínez’s personality, Galván characterized him as “more measured than Matías, not as fervent or passionate. While he is still invested, he knows how to maintain composure; he is more methodical and organized. However, players often look to the coach for inspiration and reassurance. Nonetheless, he understands Almeyda’s vision, as Javi is quite intelligent and knows exactly what needs to be done. He has faced no challenges in leading the team because the players trust his expertise, which is more than sufficient.”
