Spain international Jenni Hermoso fulfilled her dream of securing a title in Mexico by helping Tigres Femenil clinch the 2025 Apertura trophy on Sunday.

Tigres Femenil narrowly defeated America 1-0, achieving a 4-3 aggregate victory to claim the 2025 Apertura tournament title.

At 35, Hermoso, who has been a prominent figure following the controversial ‘Rubiales kiss scandal’ that emerged after Spain’s victory in the 2023 World Cup, had previously faced disappointments in Liga MX finals both with Tigres and her former club, Pachuca.

“Third time’s the charm, and you have no idea how happy this trophy makes me,” expressed the former Barcelona star following the match.

“Honestly, it’s one of the most significant [trophies], because being so far from your country, so far from your family, spending so much time alone … I said I wasn’t going to leave Mexico without winning a trophy, and today I leave satisfied.”

Tigres celebrated Hermoso’s achievement by sharing a photograph of her kissing the trophy on Instagram, captioning it: “The World Champion is now also the Champion of Mexico!”

Despite her recent triumph, Hermoso must momentarily pause her celebrations as she prepares to travel to Madrid on Monday to join the national team.

Spain is set to face Germany in the upcoming Nations League two-legged final, with the first match scheduled for Friday in Kaiserslautern and the decisive game on December 2 in Madrid.

Hermoso played an integral role in Spain’s 2023 World Cup victory, yet her post-game celebrations were marred by an unsolicited kiss from former Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales. Earlier this year, Rubiales was found guilty by a Spanish court for sexually assaulting Hermoso.

After a hiatus since 2024, Hermoso has recently rejoined the national team following a period of absence attributed to what the coach described as “technical reasons.”
