Jesper Karlsson Returns to Eredivisie with FC Utrecht

Jesper Karlsson has officially returned to the Eredivisie, having been presented by FC Utrecht on Friday afternoon. The Swedish left winger has joined the club on loan from Bologna until the upcoming summer.

In a statement on the club’s website, Karlsson expressed his enthusiasm: “This is a great opportunity for me to showcase my abilities at FC Utrecht. I really enjoy playing in the Dutch league, and I remember that matches against FC Utrecht were always challenging. I know Dani (De Wit) from my time at AZ, and after discussions with the coach, I believe this is the right step for me.”

Previously a standout player for AZ, Karlsson was sold to Bologna in the summer of 2023 for €11 million. However, his time in Italy did not go as planned, as he made only fifteen appearances for the club over two years. In 2025, he was initially loaned to Serie A team Lecce, and in recent months, he played for Scottish club Aberdeen.
