Joaqu n Delgado A Rising Star for Oviedo and Potential Target for BarcelonaJoaqu n Delgado A Rising Star for Oviedo and Potential Target for Barcelona

Joaquín Delgado has emerged as a standout name for Oviedo. The Andalusian forward is currently the top scorer for Vetusta, the club’s reserve team competing in the 2ª RFEF, and his name has been linked to several higher-tier teams. However, the potential interest from Barcelona may alter the landscape.

Delgado joined Oviedo last season to address the team’s scoring deficiencies following their relegation to 3ª RFEF. His contributions were vital, as he finished the season as the leading scorer in the Asturian group with 23 goals. This season, his performance has even surpassed that, having netted 14 goals in just 17 matches. This remarkable form has attracted the attention of multiple teams looking to acquire his services during the winter transfer window.

In a recent match against Sarriana, Delgado showcased his ability to influence games, scoring two goals and providing an assist for Pablo Agudín’s goal, earning him the title of best player of the match.

Remarkably, Delgado’s tally of goals exceeds that of the entire first team, who concluded the first half of the season with only nine goals. Guillermo Almada, the head coach, has included him in recent training sessions and commented on his prospects for a spot in the first team, although Delgado’s age presents a challenge: “Joaquín is a player with excellent attributes and statistics, but the issue is that bringing him up would consume a valuable roster spot for younger players. If no one else comes in, we will consider him.”

Oviedo’s financial constraints complicate their ability to operate effectively in the transfer market, particularly with Fede Viñas and Thiago Borbas already on board as strikers. Delgado could serve as a valuable replacement for Álex Forés, who has reached an agreement to join Leganés in the second half of the season. Oviedo must make a timely decision, as it seems clear that Vetusta is no longer a sufficient platform for the talented Andalusian.

Barcelona may consider a loan deal for Delgado, potentially including performance-based incentives. Oviedo would be open to this arrangement, provided it includes a contract renewal that secures substantial future transfer revenues. Ultimately, Almada will have the final say; if he wishes to retain Delgado, the club would register him with the first team promptly and disregard any incoming offers.
