omidbasir- Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach, Kasper Hjulmand, has officially opened the competition for the goalkeeping position following the loan acquisition of Jonas Omlin from Borussia Mönchengladbach. Leverkusen has already registered Omlin for the Champions League, indicating their commitment to integrating him into the squad. Hjulmand addressed the media during a pre-match press conference, emphasizing the competitive nature of the role.

“It would be a concern if he said, ‘I’m here not to play,’” remarked Hjulmand regarding Omlin. “We also have great confidence in Janis [Blawich], and now we have another goalkeeper who is part of this competition. We will see how things unfold, but competition is key. Janis will start against Villarreal tomorrow, after which we will assess the situation further.”

After losing both his starting position and the captaincy at Gladbach just before the season commenced, Omlin is eager to embrace this new opportunity. In a public relations interview shared on Leverkusen’s official channels, Omlin expressed his ambitions candidly.

“I haven’t had much playing time in recent months, and I genuinely hope to prove myself here and represent Leverkusen well,” Omlin stated. “I will do everything possible to make the coach’s decision as challenging as possible. I am looking forward to this challenge.”

He further noted, “My first match after arriving in Gladbach was against Leverkusen, and now I have the chance to play for them. I already reside in Düsseldorf, so my commute will be quite simple—just a different exit on the Autobahn.”
