VfL Wolfsburg has officially confirmed the news regarding a severe thigh injury sustained by Danish striker Jonas Wind.

The Bundesliga club disclosed on Wednesday that the 26-year-old underwent surgery and will be out of action indefinitely. It is anticipated that Wind may miss the entirety of the 2025 calendar year.

Currently facing administrative challenges, Wolfsburg must find a way to enhance their attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window. According to local reports from the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, the club is intensifying efforts to secure West Ham’s Niclas Füllkrug, although progress on this front has been minimal.

Füllkrug was initially sought after by both Wolfsburg and Augsburg, but Augsburg has reportedly withdrawn its interest in the 32-year-old forward. The Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung further indicates that Wolfsburg is considering various strategies, including a loan arrangement or a split transfer fee for the German international.

Wolfsburg’s negotiations with West Ham are complicated by the absence of a sporting director at the club, which raises challenges in securing new talent.

Should the efforts to acquire Füllkrug prove too challenging, Wolfsburg may also revisit discussions with Norwich City regarding a potential transfer for American striker Josh Sargent. The club nearly finalized a deal for Sargent last summer, but negotiations fell through due to disagreements over the transfer fee.
