omidbasir- After making 46 appearances for Liverpool last season, including 27 starts, Curtis Jones appeared to solidify his role as a pivotal player at Anfield. His contributions helped the team secure the Premier League title, and he enjoyed the most games in a single campaign to date. In June, the England international expressed his desire to remain with the club, stating,

“I’m just trying to be a humble kid, living the dream. Scousers have this thing about them that we always have the best [front] out to everybody, so that’s helped me along the way. I still keep my Scouse ways in terms of how I go about things, how I portray myself, and the things that I want to do. I’m a star in the limelight but I want to give back. I’m humble, I don’t forget where I come from.”

This season, however, has not been as fruitful for Jones, with only 10 Premier League starts and 10 appearances off the bench. Recently, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that discussions have taken place between Liverpool and Inter Milan regarding a loan move for Jones, which could include an option to buy. This speculation is partially fueled by the potential transfer of David Frattesi to Nottingham Forest.

Nonetheless, journalist James Pearce from The Athletic has dismissed these claims, labeling them as “nonsense” and asserting that Jones is not set to leave the club. Furthermore, The Times has indicated that Liverpool will not allow any senior players to depart before the winter transfer window closes on February 2. This decision encompasses left-back Andrew Robertson, who has attracted interest from Tottenham as he seeks more playing time ahead of the World Cup.

While reports from Italy suggest that Inter has proposed a loan deal with a future transfer fee of €40 million (£34.5 million), sources within Inter recognize that this proposal is a long shot.

Jones will be aiming to make an impact in Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against Newcastle United, where the team currently sits sixth in the standings but could potentially rise to fourth depending on other results.

In a related note, manager Slot acknowledged the increased scrutiny he faces this season, having led his team to a league title last year. He stated,

“That is what you have to accept if you are a manager that is not winning enough games. Maybe that has changed for managers — that even if you have won something there is still room for criticism, which to a certain extent is normal because we are in a new season, and I was the first to say to the players, ‘We have to forget last season.’ I think it is fair to judge me on this season and not on last season.”

As the league season progresses, Liverpool must strive to return to their winning ways.
