Jordi Cruijff’s Strategic Influence at Ajax: Transfer Negotiations on Hold

Jordi Cruijff has not yet officially commenced his role at Ajax; however, he is already making significant moves behind the scenes as the new technical director. According to Voetbal International, he has delayed the transfer of JP Chermont to Ajax, with suggestions that the deal may even be entirely canceled.

Ajax had reached out to Santos FC earlier this month regarding the nineteen-year-old right-back, but the Amsterdam club has now decided to halt negotiations at Cruijff’s recommendation.

Who is JP Chermont?

Although Chermont is not widely regarded as an exceptional talent, he has already played over fifty matches at the highest level in Brazil. Known for his disciplinary issues, Chermont remains under contract with Santos FC, the club of star player Neymar, until 2027. Analyst Mike Verweij has commented:

“The truly exceptional talents in Brazil are well-known to everyone, including scouts, but they come with a significantly higher price tag. Ajax, Feyenoord, and PSV must explore options just below the absolute top tier, identifying players they believe can become sensations in the Eredivisie. This approach allows such players to develop and potentially be sold to the Premier League in the future.”
