Jos Bordal s Reflects on Defeat Against Mallorca and Controversial PenaltyJos Bordal s Reflects on Defeat Against Mallorca and Controversial Penalty

José Bordalás spoke to the press after the match against Mallorca, analyzing his team’s defeat and addressing the controversy surrounding a penalty incident involving Mojica, which he asserted was evident to all of Spain.

In his assessment, Bordalás stated, “We did not start as we had prepared and discussed. Mallorca came in with a higher intensity and surprised us with their early goal. The team attempted to respond and improve throughout the match; however, Mallorca defended well, maintaining order and density in their formation. They executed the game plan that suited them, leading to numerous fouls and interruptions that hindered our rhythm. Nonetheless, I cannot fault the players for their efforts.”

Regarding the penalty incident involving Mojica, he expressed, “I believe everyone in Spain has seen it. It was a clear action where Mojica disrupted Mauro’s ability to control the ball; he completely disengaged. Such incidents usually result in penalties. What is perplexing is that we were not awarded a penalty when we have been penalized for much less clear cases in the past. I have no further comments; I simply do not understand why it was not called.”

Bordalás continued by acknowledging the tactics employed by Mallorca, stating, “They executed a match that suited their situation, which is quite delicate. I cannot criticize them; they performed effectively. We lacked precision and clarity. The game often halted due to fouls, and it is interesting that the opposing team committed more fouls, yet it is our players who receive the cards. This is a recurring theme; it does not surprise me. By the end of the season, we are labeled as the team with the most fouls, leading to harsh officiating against us, while the fouls committed against us frequently go unpunished. I recall a play where Liso entered the area and was challenged by a defender, which should have been a foul and a card, but nothing was called. This happens in many instances, not just this match. We are penalized, particularly in terms of stoppage time. When Getafe is leading, we see a minimum of eight minutes added, which is incredible, especially following substitutions and interruptions. We are used to it, but I must express this because we seek respect. Some demand respect while lamenting their personal situations. I have a family too, and we are all invested in this.”

When asked about his comments directed at others, he clarified, “I speak for everyone; we all have families and people who expect the best from us. We dedicate countless hours and effort. Clearly, much is at stake for all of us, not just a select few. We only request and deserve respect. We were denied a clear penalty that everyone in Spain has witnessed.”

Lastly, in response to Arrasate’s comments, Bordalás remarked, “I will not evaluate his statements; he is undoubtedly a great coach whom I hold in high regard and respect immensely.”
