Joseph Oosting: A Potential New Direction for Ajax

Two months ago, on September 4, 2025, Joseph Oosting was dismissed as the head coach of FC Twente, making him the first managerial casualty of the season. He was later joined by Bas Sibum from Heracles and John Heitinga from Ajax. Interestingly, Heitinga’s recent departure from Ajax may now open a pathway for Oosting.

Frits Barend has expressed his belief that Ajax should consider Oosting for the coaching position. “John Heitinga’s exit has liberated one individual from his struggles,” Barend commented in Nieuws van de Dag. “It was an enormous mistake by Ajax’s management to sever ties with Heitinga, who performed admirably as an assistant under Arne Slot. He should have remained with Slot for another year or two before taking on a head coach role at PEC Zwolle, where he could have gradually developed his skills. This outcome was regrettably predictable.”
