Potential Coaching Change at Ajax: Joseph Oosting as Strong Candidate

Two months ago, on September 4, 2025, Joseph Oosting was released from his position as head coach of FC Twente; he was the first coach to be dismissed this season, followed later by Bas Sibum (Heracles) and John Heitinga (Ajax). The recent departure of Heitinga may now present an opportunity for Oosting.

Frits Barend strongly advocates for Ajax to consider Oosting for the role. “There is one person who has been relieved of his position, and that is John Heitinga,” Barend commented in Nieus van de Dag. “It has been an enormous mistake by Ajax’s leadership to let Heitinga go, especially considering how effective he was as an assistant to Arne Slot. He should have remained with Slot for another year or two and eventually transitioned to a head coach role at PEC Zwolle, allowing for a gradual growth in his coaching career. It was unfortunately clear from the beginning that this situation would not end well.”
