Kane and Haaland Shine in Stellar Start to 2025 26 SeasonKane and Haaland Shine in Stellar Start to 2025 26 Season

The duo has made an impressive start to the 2025-26 season, significantly contributing goals for their respective teams. Harry Kane has expertly spearheaded Bayern Munich’s efforts in the initial three months of the campaign, having already scored a remarkable 24 goals in just 18 matches across all competitions.

In September, Kane became the fastest player in the history of Europe’s top five leagues to reach 100 goals for a single club, achieving this milestone in only 104 games. This accomplishment surpassed the records set by Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, both of whom required 105 games to reach the same feat.

Kane’s exceptional goal-scoring form has been pivotal in Vincent Kompany’s side breaking AC Milan’s longstanding record of 13 consecutive wins at the start of the 1992-93 season. Bayern Munich extended their winning streak to 16 matches before it was halted by Union Berlin, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

On the other hand, Haaland’s contribution to Manchester City is equally significant. The Norwegian striker has already surpassed the 30-goal mark for both club and country, with 19 of those goals scored under the management of Pep Guardiola. His absence was notably felt in a recent Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen, where City suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat without him and several other regular starters.

Both Kane and Haaland have demonstrated extraordinary form since the season commenced, emerging as frontrunners in the race for the 2025-26 European Golden Shoe, each having scored 14 league goals.

Former Premier League winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, who enjoyed a nine-year spell at City, believes that Kane and Haaland could successfully coexist at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons. He suggested that if Kane aims to pursue records in the Premier League, a return to Manchester City would be beneficial, particularly as the team could accommodate both strikers, even if they primarily play with one.

Wright-Phillips remarked, “If you were Harry Kane, winning more silverware at Barcelona or Real Madrid might be enticing, but if he seeks the Premier League record, Manchester City would welcome him back. Both players could thrive together, allowing Kane to also play as an exceptional No. 10, facilitating Haaland’s runs behind the defense.”

Earlier this season, BILD reported that Kane has a ‘secret’ €65 million (£57m/$76m) release clause in his Bayern contract, valid until June 2027. For this clause to be activated, Kane must inform Bayern’s management of his desire to leave by the end of January 2026.

Despite these reports, Kane appears to remain calm, expressing his openness to extending his contract with Bayern beyond 2027. He stated, “I have almost two years left. It’s not like I’m in the final year of my contract, and anyone is panicking. I’m content here, and the club seems happy with me. Discussions about my future can take place later.”

Barcelona is anticipated to undergo significant squad changes at the end of the season, with Robert Lewandowski’s contract expiring next summer. Speculation suggests that the La Liga champions are keen on signing Kane as his ideal successor, considering his release clause falls within their financial limitations, despite their considerable debt.

Nevertheless, Kane has dismissed any rumors regarding a possible move to Barcelona or elsewhere. “I haven’t had any contact with anyone; nobody has reached out to me,” he recently stated. “I feel very comfortable in my current situation, even though we haven’t discussed my future with Bayern yet. There’s no rush. I’m really happy in Munich, which reflects in my performance. If there’s contact, we’ll see, but my focus is on the upcoming World Cup this summer, and it’s unlikely anything will change after this season.”

When asked if Bayern fans should be concerned about his future, he confidently replied, “I don’t think so.”
