Kasper Dolberg has received notable criticism following the recent match between AZ and Ajax, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Analysts Pierre van Hooijdonk and Wim Kieft have suggested that the composed Dane is ‘not ruthless enough’ in front of goal. To date, Dolberg has scored five goals since his return to Amsterdam.

In the summer, Dolberg made a significant return to Ajax, rejoining the club for approximately ten million euros from RSC Anderlecht, where he had made a considerable impact over two seasons. So far, he has netted three goals in twelve matches in the Eredivisie. Kieft, however, does not view this as particularly disappointing. “Well, my expectations were not that high,” he commented on Studio Voetbal. “He performed quite well in Belgium. I find him to be a very good player overall. He is skillful, agile, and possesses good technique. You can always play through him. However, he is not the true finisher that one would expect from a number nine.”

Despite the low goal tally, Fred Grim has repeatedly expressed satisfaction with Dolberg’s contributions. During a discussion on Vandaag Inside, the hosts questioned the coach’s praise for the striker. “He hasn’t scored any goals. Fred Grim said he’s ‘very satisfied’ with him. What exactly are you satisfied about?” asked Valentijn Driessen.
