Kees Smit: Rising Star with European Ambitions

Kees Smit is being widely praised for his immense talent. The AZ midfielder is predicted to have a promising future, with major European clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona reportedly showing interest in him. Smit himself aspires to play at the highest level soon and hopes to secure a record transfer for AZ.

Currently, Smit is a key player for AZ and has also represented the Dutch U21 team. He has caught the attention of the national team as well, but in an interview with De Telegraaf, he expressed that he does not yet feel fully prepared for that leap. “I believe the step up to the national team is quite significant. There are already several exceptional midfielders there. I need to establish myself as a starter at a larger club first to have a real chance.”

Looking ahead, Smit may make that move as soon as this summer, having mapped out a timeline for leaving Alkmaar. “I think in about six months to a year and a half, I hope to have made a significant progression,” he stated. He envisions his future abroad, saying, “Yes, I believe so.” While several top European clubs are keeping an eye on him, Smit claims he is not overwhelmed by the attention. “No, I don’t find it difficult to handle. In fact, I find it quite exciting and have started to think about it. Just imagine if it actually happens.”
