Kerolin was beaming with joy after her remarkable performance on Sunday, where she netted a hat-trick against the reigning Women’s Super League champions, Chelsea. Even after being substituted in the 63rd minute, her infectious smile remained as she reflected on the pivotal match that left Chelsea’s title aspirations in jeopardy.

Manchester City’s commanding 5-1 victory allowed them to extend their lead to 11 points at the top of the table. The Brazilian winger ignited the celebratory atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium with a stunning half-volley from the edge of the box, sending the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.

By the 54th minute, Kerolin had secured her hat-trick, deftly finishing a chance set up by Lauren Hemp. However, it was her second goal that truly captured the attention of fans and pundits alike. After a failed Chelsea corner, Kerolin seized the opportunity, racing the length of the pitch, outpacing defenders Millie Bright and Keira Walsh before executing a remarkable chip over Hampton.

Former City striker Ellen White praised the goal on BBC One, stating, “I could watch that over and over again. I’m sure tonight she will just have one on replay. It’s a phenomenal finish.” Her creativity and skill were further echoed by ex-City captain Steph Houghton, who remarked, “If this is a goal that sums Kerolin up, this is it. She drove with the ball, took advantage of Chelsea’s disorganization, and finished with exceptional quality. That is pretty special.”

This hat-trick marked Kerolin’s first for the club, bringing her total to six goals in just seven WSL appearances this season. Having missed two months earlier in the season due to injury, she now boasts the highest goals-per-game ratio in the league at 1.41 goals per 90 minutes. Notably, she became the first player in WSL history to score a hat-trick against the reigning champions.

As she exited the pitch to a well-deserved standing ovation, Kerolin remained modest about her performance, attributing her success to her teammates. “It’s hard to talk about myself,” she said to BBC One. “I’m enjoying the moment with the team. Without the team, I can’t do anything. If we’re in this position right now, it’s because of the team.”

Since joining Manchester City from North Carolina Courage in January 2025, Kerolin has not always been the first-choice right winger under coach Andree Jeglertz. However, an injury to Aoba Fujino in December provided her with the opportunity to shine, and she has consistently made an impact in her recent appearances.

“She can create something out of nothing,” Jeglertz noted. “The way she scored her goals, using her speed, while also putting in a solid defensive effort, is commendable. I’m very happy for her and for us to have that kind of player.”

With the WSL trophy within reach for the first time since 2016, Jeglertz will look to Kerolin to maintain her impressive scoring form throughout City’s remaining league matches.
