King Kazu Miura s Enduring Passion for FootballKing Kazu Miura s Enduring Passion for Football

Kazuyoshi Miura has reaffirmed that his enduring passion for football remains the driving force behind his continued career. As he gears up for his 41st season as a professional player, the seasoned athlete emphasized that his motivation has not waned with age.

“My love for football is as strong as ever, regardless of my age,” Miura stated. “I am deeply grateful for this opportunity, and I promise to give my all in order to contribute effectively. Let’s create history together!”

Affectionately known as ‘King Kazu’ in Japan, Miura’s remarkable journey began far from his homeland. He commenced his professional career at Santos in 1986, immersing himself in Brazil’s football culture during a time when few Japanese players ventured abroad. Over the years, he made a name for himself by playing in Italy, Croatia, and Australia, crafting a global football resume well before international transfers became the norm for Asian athletes.

Since 2005, Miura has been registered with Yokohama FC, though a significant portion of his time has been spent on loan. His recent move to Fukushima United marks his fourth loan transfer since 2022. Last season, he played for fourth-tier Atletico Suzuka but had limited opportunities, making only seven appearances and totaling 69 minutes on the pitch without scoring.

Miura is celebrated for scoring 55 goals in 89 matches for Japan, solidifying his status as one of the country’s most recognizable football figures. His last international appearance occurred in 2000, two years after he missed selection for Japan’s inaugural World Cup squad. Post-retirement from international play, he has also represented Japan in futsal, securing six caps alongside his extensive club career.

Adversity has seldom deterred him. Following a relegation to Japan’s regional leagues, Miura expressed his willingness to embrace a new challenge—an attitude that has influenced his latest move to Fukushima United, who finished 10th in the third division last season. This transition provides him with a fresh environment and an exciting new chapter in his storied career.
