Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that he has not received any communication from Real Madrid following the departure of Xabi Alonso, stating that the decision to part ways with the manager was unrelated to him.

Since leaving Liverpool in 2024, Klopp has taken on the role of head of global soccer for Red Bull. However, he faced inquiries regarding a possible return to coaching due to the vacancy created by Alonso’s exit at Madrid.

“I believe the rumors have been circulating for quite some time, and while I understand the direction of your question, it truly has nothing to do with me,” Klopp remarked during an interview with the Austrian channel Servus TV, as translated by EFE.

He added with a laugh, “My phone has actually rung, but not from Madrid,” reiterating that the news surrounding Alonso’s departure has had no impact on him whatsoever.

Klopp acknowledged Alonso’s capabilities as a coach, noting that his exit after just six months signifies underlying issues within the club. “This illustrates a couple of things: firstly, that coaches are afforded little time, and secondly, that the expectations at Real Madrid are understandably immense,” he explained.

Alex Kirkland pointed out that the timing of Alonso’s dismissal, particularly after a loss in the Supercopa final against Barcelona, has come as a significant surprise. Klopp reflected on Alonso’s departure and remarked that rumors of discord between the coach and the squad began to surface relatively early in his tenure.

“Taking over from a legendary coach like Carlo Ancelotti comes with its challenges, especially when attempting to implement new strategies. It appears that this process proved to be too challenging this time,” he commented.

Expressing empathy for Alonso, Klopp emphasized his belief in Alonso’s talent and expressed confidence that the former manager will succeed in future endeavors.

When questioned about the possibility of Alonso joining Liverpool, Klopp expressed skepticism, stating that he doubts Alonso would leave his position in Spain only to start elsewhere immediately. He mentioned that significant changes are anticipated in the coaching market over the summer, which will lead to a reshuffling of roles.

“It is certainly beneficial to observe these developments without the pressure of considering their implications for myself,” he concluded, affirming his contentment in his current position.
