Kodai Sano Understands NEC’s Position After Missed Transfer Opportunity

Kodai Sano would have preferred to leave NEC this winter; however, his current employer was not amenable to a transfer. The 22-year-old midfielder, who has emerged as a standout talent, acknowledges the club’s position regarding his potential departure.

Despite his disappointment over the missed transfer, Sano understands NEC’s rationale. His impressive development at De Goffer has made him a sought-after player in the transfer market. Recently, Ajax submitted an offer, and clubs from both the Premier League and Bundesliga also expressed interest. Even Nottingham Forest’s proposal of twenty million euros was insufficient to persuade NEC to let him go.

Looking ahead, Sano remains focused on making a significant career advancement. He emphasizes that he joined NEC with the intention of eventually progressing to a higher level. “I have been concentrating on my career and recognize the importance of the next step. I hoped to secure a transfer this winter, but I also empathize with the club’s situation. Now, my focus is directed towards the summer.”
