LaLiga to Announce New Audiovisual Rights Deal This FridayLaLiga to Announce New Audiovisual Rights Deal This Friday

This Friday, LaLiga will announce the entity that will acquire the audiovisual rights for the tournament covering the seasons from 2027-2028 to 2031-2032. The bids will be opened at the headquarters of the CSD, after which the governing body of LaLiga will make a decision based on the received offers. The announcement is expected to take place around noon.

Under the leadership of Javier Tebas, LaLiga has presented twelve different packages in an effort to optimize the distribution of rights. The previous tender for the seasons 2022-2023 to 2026-2027 was sold for €4.95 billion, averaging €990 million per season. LaLiga aims to exceed this figure with the upcoming deal.

Sources consulted by MARCA express optimism regarding the new tender. Tebas opted to initiate the sale of rights earlier than initially anticipated. It remains to be seen whether this decision will yield favorable outcomes.

Currently, the rights have been awarded to Movistar and DAZN, with each platform broadcasting five matches per matchday. Additionally, Movistar holds exclusive rights to three full matchdays. One of the uncertainties is whether platforms such as Amazon, which has entered the Champions League market in certain countries, will also participate in this bidding process.

It is important to note that television revenue constitutes a significant portion of the income for LaLiga clubs, with some clubs relying on it for nearly 80% of their total revenue. Therefore, it is crucial for LaLiga to maximize the value of its competition, especially in light of increased competition from the revamped Champions League, which offers more matches than before, posing a greater threat to European leagues.
