Lewandowski s Future Remains Uncertain as Barcelona Seeks ReplacementLewandowski s Future Remains Uncertain as Barcelona Seeks Replacement

Robert Lewandowski, whose contract with Barcelona is approaching its expiration, has acknowledged that a definitive decision regarding his future in Catalonia has not yet been made. Despite facing some injury challenges this season, he remains contemplative about his next steps beyond the 2025-26 campaign.

In a recent interview with Polish journalist Bogdan Rymanowski, Lewandowski offered a candid reflection on his circumstances, emphasizing that he still has time to make a decision. He stated, “I don’t know where I want to play right now. There’s no need to think about it yet. I don’t have any pressure, and I am uncertain about the direction I wish to pursue.”

Lewandowski clarified that his discussions with Barcelona’s management are more distant than tense, noting that financial considerations are not the primary factor in his decision-making. “I am not discussing potential clubs with the coach,” he explained. “This isn’t simply about reducing my salary. Much depends on the club’s vision and my own aspirations.”

As Lewandowski’s future hangs in the balance, Barcelona has initiated a search for a suitable replacement. Reports from Marca suggest that the club has identified Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic as a potential successor. Vlahovic is currently under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, after which he will become a free agent.

Additionally, while Hansi Flick views Ferran Torres as an ideal candidate to fill Lewandowski’s role in the starting lineup, the club is keen on acquiring a player who can effectively enhance their attacking capabilities in the event of Lewandowski’s departure next summer.

Vlahovic has encountered challenges this season, struggling with form and fitness, having scored only three goals in both Serie A and the Champions League. He is expected to be sidelined due to an abductor injury until at least the first match of 2026.

On the other hand, Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson, whose future at Bayern Munich is uncertain following the expiration of his loan deal, could also be on the move. Bayern Munich is reportedly considering alternatives and has engaged in discussions with Vlahovic’s representatives as of October.

As speculation surrounding Lewandowski intensifies, global interest in his services is growing. According to Spanish outlet AS, his agent, Pini Zahavi, is scheduled to hold new talks with representatives from the Saudi Pro League ahead of the January transfer window. While an offer has reportedly been made, the identities of the interested clubs remain undisclosed. The appeal of the Middle East is evident, as the Saudi Pro League has successfully attracted high-profile players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante.

For Lewandowski, the idea of concluding his career in a rapidly expanding league with substantial financial incentives is enticing. However, Saudi Arabia is not the only potential destination; discussions with Chicago Fire regarding a move to Major League Soccer have also taken place. The club has openly expressed its desire to sign a marquee player and has prioritized Lewandowski as a target for several months.
