Liam Rosenior A Rising Star in Management with Strong Endorsements from Wayne RooneyLiam Rosenior A Rising Star in Management with Strong Endorsements from Wayne Rooney

omidbasir- When Wayne Rooney arrived at Derby County five years ago for his inaugural managerial position, he appointed Liam Rosenior as his assistant. Rosenior, a former Fulham defender, had been with the club since 2019 and was promoted from first-team coach to assistant manager upon Rooney’s arrival. Among the two, Rosenior possessed more coaching experience and played a crucial role in helping Rooney acclimate to his new role with the Rams.

“He’s taken chances, and hopefully that pays off because I think Liam is as good a coach as I’ve ever worked with,” Rooney stated on his self-titled BBC podcast. This commendation is particularly significant, considering Rooney’s past encounters with esteemed coaches such as Carlos Queiroz, Rene Meulensteen, and Mike Phelan during his time at Manchester United.

“His attention to detail and approach to day-to-day operations are exceptional. Liam was vital for me and showcased incredible coaching abilities. I managed player relations while learning a lot from him in terms of coaching. Overall, he has done a remarkable job; however, he also possesses a resolute side you wouldn’t want to provoke.”

Rosenior seems poised for a move to Chelsea, transitioning from one BlueCo club to another. He previously managed Hull City, nearly leading them into the Championship play-offs during the 2023-24 season, but was dismissed due to philosophical differences with the club’s owner. While his managerial experience is limited, Rooney believes this shouldn’t raise concerns among Chelsea supporters who seek excellence.

“If he takes the opportunity at Chelsea, he won’t disappoint,” Rooney asserted. “He has been waiting for a chance like this. If he doesn’t seize it now, he may never get another. He has completed his apprenticeship and is well-prepared for this role. I hope we soon hear of his appointment, as it would be a significant milestone for young English coaches. We rarely see English managers at prominent clubs, so his success would set a precedent.”

In the summer of 2024, Rosenior was appointed by Strasbourg to replace Patrick Vieira, following a 13th-place finish in Ligue 1. He swiftly elevated the team to seventh place in his first season while adapting to a new country and language, leading them to qualify for the UEFA Conference League. Strasbourg was impressed with his performance and extended his contract before the conclusion of his debut season.

This season, Rosenior has guided Strasbourg to the top of the Conference League standings, achieving five wins from six matches, and maintains their position at seventh in Ligue 1, pushing for an even better finish. However, it appears increasingly likely that he will not remain with the club he has developed a strong affinity for much longer.

Time is of the essence for Rosenior to finalize his move to Chelsea before the Premier League derby against Fulham on Wednesday, which may lead to Calum McFarlane continuing as interim manager after his successful result against Manchester City. Should the transition occur swiftly, Rosenior could potentially debut in the FA Cup third round against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, a significantly less daunting opening than the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal shortly thereafter.
