Liam Rosenior Aims to Replicate Manchester United s Success at ChelseaLiam Rosenior Aims to Replicate Manchester United s Success at Chelsea

Liam Rosenior, the newly appointed Chelsea manager, has expressed his belief that the club can replicate Manchester United’s iconic ‘Class of ’92’ as they embark on a strategy focused on winning trophies with young players.

In his first match at the helm, Rosenior will lead Chelsea against Championship side Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup third round this Saturday. Chelsea currently boasts the youngest squad in the Premier League, with Tosin Adarabioyo being the oldest member at 28 years old. His predecessor, Enzo Maresca, previously indicated that the team’s lack of experience could hinder their consistency.

Rosenior referenced Manchester United’s success in the 1990s, during which players like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, and Ryan Giggs emerged simultaneously, leading the club to numerous victories under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

“People might question this perspective, but I have been a Manchester United fan and am now a devoted Chelsea supporter,” Rosenior stated. He noted his experience managing a young team at Strasbourg and drew inspiration from Ferguson’s audacity in integrating young players into a championship-winning squad.

“Sir Alex Ferguson had the courage to include six or seven players aged between 19 and 21 in his title-winning team because he had faith in them. Their growth resulted in a remarkable era of consecutive trophy wins for the club. Such bravery is essential for achieving similar success.

“There is potential here at Chelsea. While it may not yet be a reality, we have young talents like Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Cole Palmer, and Reece James—players of world-class caliber who are still very young. Our ultimate ambition is to recreate that historic success, and while I cannot guarantee it will happen, I refuse to limit the club’s aspirations.

“My previous experience at Strasbourg demonstrates my ability to work effectively with young players, enhancing their skills while achieving results. There is no reason to believe I cannot do the same at Chelsea.”

When reminded that the young players at United had senior professionals like Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, and Steve Bruce to mentor them, Rosenior acknowledged the importance of experience: “Indeed, you’ll witness the outcomes of our ongoing discussions. This project is centered on winning—our focus is solely on securing trophies for Chelsea. I am dedicated to this mission and believe that regardless of whether I am still with the club in three, four, or five years, Chelsea will enjoy long-term success.

“It’s crucial to recognize that while age matters, experience is equally significant. Enzo, a World Cup winner, serves as a leader, and Reece has also achieved considerable success. We have players in this squad with experience; although they may be younger, they have tasted victory together, and I intend to leverage that experience to propel us forward and motivate the team to achieve even greater heights in the future.”
