Liam Rosenior s Strategic Decision Ahead of Chelsea s Clash with FulhamLiam Rosenior s Strategic Decision Ahead of Chelsea s Clash with Fulham

Liam Rosenior refrained from taking the helm for Chelsea’s Premier League match against Fulham on Wednesday, citing a “difficult time-frame” between his appointment on Tuesday and the game at Craven Cottage.

At 41, Rosenior signed a six-year contract to become Chelsea’s head coach after departing from the club’s Ligue 1 affiliate, Strasbourg, to succeed Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.

Despite traveling the short distance of one mile across West London with the Chelsea squad on the team bus, Rosenior felt he lacked adequate time to prepare the players effectively for the match.

Consequently, he chose to observe from the stands while interim coach Calum McFarlane led the team, who had previously secured a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

When asked by Sky Sports about his decision, Rosenior acknowledged the challenges of travel and emphasized the excellent job McFarlane had done against Manchester City. He praised the players’ performance, particularly in the second half, highlighting their energy, intensity, and quality of play.

Rosenior remarked, “Not just Calum, but Harry [Hudson] as well, they have supported the lads in a really difficult moment in a really good way. With my arrival from Strasbourg yesterday morning, I found it challenging to implement the tactical work necessary to prepare the team for success.

“I have complete faith in Calum and the players to secure a victory tonight.”

Rosenior is set to conduct first-team training on Thursday, gearing up for his debut on the sidelines during Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against EFL Championship side Charlton.

“I’m super excited; I can’t wait,” stated Rosenior. “Coaching has always been my aspiration since I was young, and this opportunity at this stage of my career is truly significant. However, my primary focus is on not just being Chelsea’s manager, but on being a successful Chelsea manager. That was the message I conveyed to the players when I met them for the first time.

“We need to hit the ground running for the remainder of the season.”
