Liverpool Ends Negotiations with Tottenham Over Andy RobertsonLiverpool Ends Negotiations with Tottenham Over Andy Robertson

Liverpool Football Club has officially withdrawn from negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur concerning their interest in veteran full-back Andy Robertson.

The London club approached Robertson late last week, as manager Thomas Frank aimed to bolster his squad with experienced players.

In light of Robertson’s substantial contributions over his eight-and-a-half-year tenure with Liverpool, the club initially considered Tottenham’s proposal. However, as the Scotland captain approaches the end of his contract this summer, Liverpool has opted not to advance discussions. Sources have indicated that the club is not inclined to part ways with Robertson, who has not sought a transfer.

This season, Robertson has started only four Premier League matches, having lost his starting position to Milos Kerkez. Nonetheless, he has participated in four out of seven Champions League fixtures, including pivotal matches against prominent teams such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan.

In a recent match against Bournemouth, Robertson came off the bench at halftime. Head coach Arne Slot later explained that Kerkez had been substituted due to concerns over his physical condition, placing him in the “red zone” for potential injury risk.

The team has faced challenges in defense, with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni both suffering season-ending injuries. Additionally, Joe Gomez was forced to exit the Bournemouth match after a collision with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, although it is hoped that his injury is merely a bruise. Fellow center-back Ibrahima Konaté has also been absent from the last two matches due to the recent passing of his father.

Captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his desire for Robertson to remain with the team, while Slot emphasized his commitment to retaining all players as the club continues to compete in both the Champions League and FA Cup.
