Lutsharel Geertruida has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season while on loan at Sunderland.

Liverpool is reportedly in discussions to acquire the Dutch defender on loan. Currently, Geertruida is with Sunderland on loan from RB Leipzig.

At 25 years old, he previously played under Arne Slot at Feyenoord and is considered a viable defensive option for Liverpool. The Dutch international is known for his versatility, capable of playing as a right-back, centre-back, and defensive midfielder.

Liverpool’s defensive options have been affected by injuries, with Conor Bradley out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, and Jeremie Frimpong sidelined for a few weeks with a groin issue. Additionally, Ibrahima Konate’s contract is set to expire this summer.

The situation is complicated, as it involves multiple parties. Geertruida’s loan agreement with Sunderland does not include a recall clause, meaning any potential move would need to be coordinated with Regis le Bris’ side.
