Liverpool has reached out to the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to voice significant concerns regarding the decision to disallow Virgil van Dijk’s goal in their recent match against Manchester City, according to sources from ESPN.

Arne Slot’s team faced a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon. They believed they had equalized when Van Dijk scored from a corner late in the first half. However, the goal was disallowed after it was determined that Andy Robertson, who was in an offside position, obstructed the view of City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The decision was supported by VAR official Michael Oliver.

The Premier League match center stated on X that Robertson was “deemed to be making an obvious action directly in front of the goalkeeper.”

Sources indicate that Liverpool contends the language of Law 11, which addresses offside offenses, is clear and asserts that the necessary criteria to disallow the goal were not satisfied. After reviewing all available angles, the club does not agree that Robertson’s presence blocked Donnarumma’s vision.

Following their defeat to City, Liverpool currently sits eighth in the Premier League table, trailing leaders Arsenal by eight points.
