Liverpool s Consistency Under Fire as They Prepare for Manchester City ShowdownLiverpool s Consistency Under Fire as They Prepare for Manchester City Showdown

Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, humorously remarked on his team’s “consistency” in the Premier League this season, noting that it has predominantly related to their losses.

The reigning champions faced a challenging stretch, suffering four consecutive league defeats before rebounding with a victory against Aston Villa last weekend. They followed this success with a narrow 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League midweek.

Due to last month’s struggles, Liverpool currently finds themselves seven points adrift of league leaders Arsenal. Slot acknowledged the need for his team to implement the “right strategies” if they hope to regain ground in the title race.

“We have indeed been consistent, but unfortunately, it has been in losing,” Slot stated during a news conference in anticipation of Sunday’s match against Manchester City.

“Our focus must shift towards consistent positive performance. Facing Manchester City away is one of the toughest challenges you can encounter in a season, and it promises to be an exciting match.

“Even when I was in the Netherlands, I was always aware of when Manchester City faced Liverpool, and I made sure to watch those games. They are highly anticipated encounters for everyone involved.”

The Dutch coach continued, “My primary concern is on our own performance. We have lost more games this season than we typically would, but we have also secured two wins recently. Our focus remains on improvement and getting our players fit to see where that takes us.”

In positive news for Liverpool, they could welcome back striker Alexander Isak for the match against City, as he is set to return to team training on Friday after recovering from a groin injury.

“He will be training with the team for the first time today after three weeks off,” Slot reported. “I mentioned three weeks ago that his pre-season was over, and it is time to assess his current condition. However, I must reiterate that three weeks of rehabilitation does not equate to being back at the same level as before. Our team has made commendable progress, but rehabilitation cannot be compared to actual match play or training with the squad. Patience will be required as he readjusts.”
