Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, has wittily remarked on the team’s “consistency” in the Premier League this season—though this consistency has unfortunately pertained to their losses. The reigning champions experienced a tough stretch, losing four consecutive league matches before recovering with a victory against Aston Villa last weekend. They followed this up with a narrow 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League midweek. Due to last month’s downturn, Liverpool currently trails leaders Arsenal by seven points in the standings. Slot acknowledged the necessity for the team to focus on the “right things” to close the gap in the title race. “We were actually very consistent, but the thing is we were consistent in losing,” Slot commented during a news conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Manchester City. “We must strive for consistency in executing our game plan. Facing Manchester City away is one of the most challenging encounters of the season, and it promises to be a fascinating match. “When I was in the Netherlands and not working here, I always made it a point to watch Manchester City versus Liverpool. I can assure you I was always 100% in front of the television for those games. These are the fixtures that everyone anticipates.” Slot continued: “My primary focus is on our performance, and our aim is to achieve consistency. As you know, we’ve lost several matches—far more than is typical for us—but we have recently secured two wins. “Our priority remains on improving and ensuring our players are fit. We will see where that leads us.” In addition, Liverpool could potentially welcome back striker Alexander Isak for the match against City. He is set to return to team training following a groin injury that sidelined him. “He will train with the team for the first time today after three weeks of rehabilitation,” Slot stated. “I mentioned three weeks ago that his pre-season had concluded, and it’s time to assess his condition. “However, I must clarify that three weeks of rehab does not equate to the performance levels he maintained prior to his injury. While our team has performed admirably, rehab cannot be compared to actual match play or training with the squad. It simply isn’t feasible. Thus, I emphasize the need to give him some time.” Post navigation Sir Alex Ferguson Pays Tribute to Pep Guardiola on Milestone Achievement Barcelona’s Journey Back to Camp Nou: Open Training Session Marks a Historic Step
