Liverpool s Struggles and Upcoming Challenge Against Manchester CityLiverpool s Struggles and Upcoming Challenge Against Manchester City

Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, humorously remarked that his team has been “very consistent” in the Premier League this season, though this consistency has unfortunately pertained to losing games.

The reigning champions suffered four consecutive league defeats before recovering with a victory against Aston Villa last weekend. They followed that up with a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League midweek.

As a result of last month’s poor form, Liverpool currently finds themselves seven points adrift of league leaders Arsenal. Slot acknowledged the necessity for his team to engage in the “right actions” to have any chance of narrowing the gap in the title race.

“We were actually very consistent, but the thing is we were consistent in losing,” Slot said during a press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Manchester City.

“We need to maintain consistency in executing positive plays. Facing Manchester City away remains one of the toughest challenges in a season. It’s a game we eagerly anticipate.

“When I was in the Netherlands and not yet working here, I was always aware of when Manchester City faced Liverpool, and I can assure you I was glued to the television for those matches. These are the games everyone looks forward to.”

Slot continued, “My sole focus is on our team, and right now, we are concentrating on consistency. We have lost more matches than usual, but we have also secured two victories recently.

“Our objective is to improve and ensure the players regain their fitness. We will see where this effort takes us.”

In positive news, Liverpool could welcome back striker Alexander Isak for the match against City, as he is set to resume team training on Friday following a groin injury.

“He will train with the team again today after a three-week absence,” Slot noted. “Three weeks ago, I stated that his pre-season was complete, and it’s time to evaluate his current condition.

“However, I must reiterate that three weeks in rehab does not restore a player to their previous form. While our team has performed admirably, rehab cannot be equated with competitive matches or training sessions. Patience is necessary as he reintegrates into the squad.”
