Lucas Ocampos Faces New Health Challenge Amid Previous InjuriesLucas Ocampos Faces New Health Challenge Amid Previous Injuries

Only a few months ago, Lucas Ocampos sustained a severe skateboarding injury while rushing to assist one of his daughters after she had an accident during a horse riding class. In losing control of his skateboard, he fell and suffered a wrist fracture along with facial trauma, which sidelined him for two months.

Currently, Ocampos is facing a new health issue, having contracted a virus that has resulted in partial facial paralysis. The Monterrey star shared this development through a social media post, featuring a photo of himself with a patch over his left eye. In his post, the 31-year-old optimistically stated, “January will be better.”

Monterrey Football Club released a statement confirming Ocampos’ condition, noting: “The Monterrey Football Club reports that the player Lucas Ocampos presented with facial paralysis of the left hemiface, of probable viral etiology. The soccer player was evaluated by a specialist to regulate the therapeutic approach.”

The club also indicated that Ocampos would need to rest for at least a week before his condition could be reassessed.

In a prior incident during his tenure at Sevilla in 2024, Ocampos encountered fan harassment while preparing for a throw-in during a La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano. A spectator reached out and poked him, prompting the game to be paused as Ocampos alerted the referee. Subsequently, national police intervened, and the Spanish government’s anti-violence commission fined the fan €6,000 (£5,100/$6,400) and issued a one-year stadium ban.

The anti-violence commission commented, “This serious incident against the integrity of the visiting team’s player caused the match to be stopped for several minutes. After the incident, the spectator and his friends displayed a joking and defiant attitude towards the player’s protests.”

Throughout his 14-year professional career, Ocampos has contended with numerous injuries, particularly to his knees, ankle, and hamstring. According to reports from The Sun, the current facial paralysis is unrelated to his earlier skateboarding injury. Monterrey is hopeful for a swift recovery so that their star player can return to the pitch, where he has recorded seven goals and ten assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.
