Luciano Valente Faces Criticism Amidst Feyenoord StrugglesLuciano Valente Faces Criticism Amidst Feyenoord Struggles

Luciano Valente has experienced a tumultuous journey since joining Feyenoord, but he now finds himself entangled in the club’s current struggles. Jan Mulder has voiced his concerns regarding Valente’s performance, while John van ’t Schip suggests that these issues are reflective of broader developments at Feyenoord.

Criticism of Feyenoord’s Acquisition Luciano Valente

During a recent discussion on Rondo, Mulder expressed his dissatisfaction with Valente’s display against PSV, stating, “When I watch Valente play, I think to myself: come on, just deliver one decent pass. My frustration isn’t directed at Coach Van Persie but rather at Valente: ‘Play better!’” Theo Janssen agrees with the criticism but acknowledges that external factors contribute to Valente’s underwhelming performance. “I concur, but this also relates to the time he’s been given. He didn’t have a single opportunity against PSV to turn and play with composure, largely because Feyenoord’s ball handling was abysmal.”

Tactical Missteps by Van Persie

Many believe that Valente’s lackluster performance against PSV can also be attributed to Coach Robin van Persie’s tactical choices. Valente was not positioned as an attacking midfielder, a role that was notably filled by Hwang instead. This decision has sparked considerable backlash online, with comments such as, “How Van Persie utilizes him could warrant dismissal. He needs to play much higher up the field.” Others have lamented, “Valente cannot carry the team alone. It’s perplexing, isn’t it? Van Persie is failing on all fronts—technically, tactically, in fitness, player engagement, team cohesion, and more. He has already cost Feyenoord millions…” Additionally, another comment echoed the sentiment, stating, “Van Persie’s treatment of Valente should be met with serious consequences.”
