Luis Enrique, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, has expressed his openness to implementing a sin-bin-style system in football, which would temporarily remove players from the game for committing fouls.

In rugby, a sin-bin is utilized when a player engages in foul play, leading to a ten-minute suspension. Currently, football employs a system where players are either shown a yellow card as a caution or a red card for permanent expulsion from the match.

During a pre-match news conference on Thursday, Luis Enrique was inquired about his support for a proposed ‘orange’ card, which would result in a player being sidelined for twenty minutes.

“We must continue to search for innovations like this,” he stated, reflecting on the upcoming Ligue 1 match against Lille. “It is essential to continually evolve as a sport. As long as there are opportunities to enhance the game and promote a more offensive style that captivates supporters, we should explore them.”

Luis Enrique also suggested that creating more space on the field could improve attacking play. “I recall former UEFA president Michel Platini proposing years ago to play with ten players instead of eleven,” he noted. “These are ideas worth analyzing to determine their impact on our sport. I remain open to exploring new concepts.”

Heading into this weekend’s matches, defending Ligue 1 champions PSG were trailing behind surprise leaders Lens by one point.
