Lu s Castro Sets Clear Goals for Levante s FutureLu s Castro Sets Clear Goals for Levante s Future

Luís Castro has embarked on a new chapter with Levante, setting a clear objective: to secure the team’s survival in the league. The newly appointed coach has stated that every match remaining this season will be treated as a final. Although beginning this journey at Sánchez Pizjuán may pose a challenge, he is aware of the host’s weaknesses and aims to exploit them.

With the team having conceded 29 goals in 19 matches, Castro recognizes the significance of strong defense. “It is crucial to defend effectively; however, if we maintain possession of the ball during attacks, we reduce the chances of conceding goals. A robust attacking strategy also serves as a defensive measure, and finding balance is paramount. We are analyzing all the adverse situations we’ve encountered and are continuously working towards the upcoming match.”

As the new year unfolds, Castro reflects on his past experience at Dunkerque. “Every match presents a unique scenario. Winning brings us closer to our goal, although we won’t win every game. However, if we give our all, we will edge closer to success.”

Regarding player injuries, he noted that Koyalipou is nearing recovery and should return soon. Meanwhile, Victor García is undergoing examinations to determine the extent of his injury, which is not located in the ankle.

On debuting in La Liga, Castro expresses his deep admiration for Spanish football. “As a Portuguese, I have followed this league since childhood. I have always watched football, and I am familiar with Levante. It is a pleasure to be here and experience this league firsthand.”

When discussing Sevilla as an upcoming opponent, Castro commented, “They are a highly aggressive team that applies intense high pressing. This often accelerates the pace of the game rather than fostering patience. They score numerous goals during transitions and possess talented players, though they also have vulnerabilities that we have analyzed to maximize our offensive impact.”

Regarding set pieces, Castro stated, “While I do not have specific statistics, I can assure you that Levante has a specialist focused on these situations. Last year, Benfica B was the most effective team in Portugal concerning set pieces, and that specialist is now part of my coaching staff.”

He also discussed Carlos Álvarez, saying, “Whether he plays on the wing or centrally, he must be involved in decisive areas of the game. His unique skills are essential, and we intend to position him closer to the center of play.”

On goalkeeping strategy, he emphasized the need for goalkeepers to be actively involved in ball play. “If we wish to maintain possession, our goalkeepers must participate as well. They have been working on this aspect, and I anticipate they will have a more significant presence in the game than before. Although Primo has been ill and missed training, Mathiew and Pablo have performed admirably.”

Finally, Castro reiterated the importance of approaching every match with the mindset of a final. “For me, all games are finals. We must be at our best, and the team’s current situation necessitates a winning mentality. We must view each game individually, treating them all as crucial finals.”
