Lyon Signs Young Brazilian Talent Endrick on Loan from Real MadridLyon Signs Young Brazilian Talent Endrick on Loan from Real Madrid

Last week, Olympique Lyonnais finalized an agreement with Real Madrid to sign young forward Endrick on loan for the remainder of the season. Following the summer exits of forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Georges Mikautadze, Lyon has sought to enhance their attacking capabilities, and the arrival of the promising Brazilian talent fulfills that need. Upon the announcement of his transfer, Endrick, who will don the number nine jersey, enthusiastically expressed on social media, “Christmas has come early!”

The Brazil international, who made only four appearances across all competitions for Xabi Alonso’s side this season, is eager to make a significant impact at Lyon, where fans are excited about his potential contributions.

According to RMC Sport, Lyon’s Instagram post announcing Endrick’s signing has achieved over 17 million views, marking it as the most viewed post in the club’s history. For comparison, the previous record was set by a video featuring Tyler Morton, which garnered fewer than three million views when he joined from Liverpool this summer. Should Endrick excel in the French top-flight, the club could see more records broken in the near future.

Upon confirming the loan, Lyon stated on their official website: “At just 19 years of age, Endrick joins OL with already solid experience at the very highest level and a maturity forged in demanding competitive environments. His attacking profile, impact in decisive areas, and energetic play are significant assets as the team progresses into the second half of the season, with numerous objectives still to pursue.”

Lyon characterized Endrick as “one of the most promising talents of his generation” and expressed gratitude to Real Madrid for facilitating this transfer. They further remarked, “Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to welcome Endrick, who will join the professional squad from December 29, and would like to thank Real Madrid for the quality of the discussions and cooperation that enabled his arrival.”

While Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior extended good wishes to his compatriot, club legend Sidney Govou raised concerns about the transfer. Vinicius Jr. posted on Instagram, “My brother Bob, good luck. We’re waiting for you big time here.”

Conversely, Govou remarked, “Nobody knows enough about Endrick to fully understand his capabilities, even though he is undoubtedly a talented player. However, a player who rarely features might indicate a deeper issue. Endrick may have individual goals that do not align with the team’s collective objectives, and that is what concerns me.”

As confirmed by Lyon, Endrick will join the first-team squad for training on Monday. However, he will have to wait a little longer for his debut, as he was not registered in time for the upcoming match on January 3 against AS Monaco. He may, however, make his first appearance for the French club in the Coupe de France round of 16 against Lille eight days later. Currently, Lyon sits fifth in Ligue 1, trailing surprise leaders Lens by 10 points and the defending champions Paris Saint-Germain by nine after 16 matches. A victory over Monaco in their next fixture could narrow the gap to fourth-placed Lille, contingent on favorable results.
