omidbasir- Catarina Macario’s potential arrival would provide a substantial enhancement to the Wave, particularly following the departures of key players Naomi Girma and Jaedyn Shaw, along with the retirement of Alex Morgan.

Macario boasts an impressive record as both a scorer and playmaker, netting 26 goals in 62 appearances during her stints with Lyon and Chelsea.

While no agreement has been finalized, discussions are advancing as Macario nears the conclusion of her contract with Chelsea. Under FIFA regulations, the 26-year-old is eligible to enter a pre-contract agreement within six months of her current contract’s expiration.

According to ESPN, Macario has received multiple offers from European clubs, including Barcelona; however, she has expressed a preference for returning to the United States to be closer to her roots. The prospect of playing in the NWSL for the first time excites her, with personal factors significantly influencing her decision.

Her time in London was initially disrupted by recovery from a long-term ACL injury that kept her sidelined for 20 months. Despite facing ongoing fitness challenges, Macario became a more regular presence in 2025, contributing to Chelsea’s success with two Women’s Super League titles. She has scored 15 goals in 59 matches for the club.

Notably, Macario was omitted from Chelsea’s Champions League squad in January due to injury concerns, particularly a heel issue, and has not played since early December.

On the international stage, Macario has made a mark with the United States women’s national soccer team, scoring 16 goals in 29 appearances, including eight goals in just ten matches last year.
