In October, Harry Maguire scored the decisive goal for Manchester United against Liverpool, marking one of the few significant victories during the Ruben Amorim era. The former Leicester City defender has been with the Red Devils since 2018, yet he remains unsure if this will be his final season at the club.

At that time, he remarked, “I’ve been here seven years now, so it’s been tough not getting that win. It’s been on my mind a little bit, to be honest. I’m in my last year now, so this could be the last time I play at Anfield for this club, making it really important to have ticked that one off.”

This statement came a few months after United activated a one-year extension that would keep Maguire at the club until 2026.

In August, he commented on his future: “Last year, the clause was in their hands, so there was no option for me there. There was no discussion; they simply activated it, and the extension was put in place. This year, I’m aware that my contract runs out at the end of the year. The club has made it clear this summer that I cannot leave under any circumstances, despite other clubs showing interest. I believe that in the coming months, we will sit down for a discussion about our future plans, including whether they wish to extend my contract, especially with the January transfer window approaching. I have my own aspirations regarding my future, but I prefer to keep those private. It’s an incredible club to represent, and it would be unwise to leave at the first opportunity.”

According to the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest’s center-back Murillo is among the players being considered by United as they look to strengthen their defense for the next season. The Brazilian is reportedly open to leaving Forest next summer, despite having signed a deal until 2029 and his family being settled in Nottingham. The report suggests that United is preparing for Maguire’s potential departure, although acquiring Murillo may not be straightforward, as he will not be available at a low price.

During Erik ten Hag’s tenure at United, there were indications that the manager was willing to allow Maguire to leave, with West Ham expressing interest. However, Maguire worked hard to regain his place in the starting lineup. Injuries have hindered his playing time in recent seasons, but many fans have begun to appreciate his contributions. So far this season, he has appeared in 10 matches, scoring two goals, but there are currently no signs of a new contract offer.

The future of Maguire at United remains uncertain, particularly with young central defenders such as Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, alongside Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs De Ligt, in contention for next season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United is preparing for the start of Michael Carrick’s interim managerial tenure following Amorim’s dismissal earlier this month. Carrick’s first match in charge will be the Manchester derby on Saturday at Old Trafford, followed by a clash against league leaders Arsenal. Maguire will be hoping for the opportunity to participate in these crucial fixtures.
