Maguire s Teammates Advocate for Contract Extension at Manchester UnitedMaguire s Teammates Advocate for Contract Extension at Manchester United

omidbasir- According to a report by The Sun, the Manchester United dressing room has expressed a strong desire for Harry Maguire to remain at the club and sign a new contract that would extend his tenure at Old Trafford beyond 2026.

Maguire’s teammates are united in their belief that he should stay, recognizing his valuable contributions both on the field and in the locker room, particularly his role in mentoring younger defenders.

The 32-year-old has experienced a tumultuous journey at Manchester United since his record-breaking £80 million ($109 million) transfer from Leicester City in 2019, which remains the highest fee ever paid for a defender. However, he has recently demonstrated a resurgence in form, showing leadership in defense and contributing key goals, such as the decisive strikes against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals last year and against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season.

A source informed The Sun about the players’ sentiments regarding Maguire: “The players believe it would be madness not to offer him a new deal. Harry has faced numerous challenges at United but has emerged stronger, playing exceptionally well. He is highly respected in the dressing room and shares his extensive knowledge with younger players like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro. Everyone appreciates him, and the majority want the club to secure his future.”

Currently, Maguire earns a reported £190,000 per week, and any new contract may involve a wage reduction alongside performance-related bonuses.

Having excelled at Leicester and during the 2018 World Cup with England, Maguire’s initial success at United was notable. He was appointed captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020 but was later stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag in 2023, facing potential exits amid ongoing media scrutiny.

Nonetheless, Maguire’s revival and his significance behind the scenes have positively impacted the younger squad members. Recently, he was named Man of the Match in United’s 3-2 victory against league leaders Arsenal, showcasing a strong partnership with Lisandro Martinez under manager Michael Carrick after returning from a thigh injury.

Carrick commented on Maguire’s performance against Manchester City, stating, “I thought it provided us with a solid foundation, combining experience with Licha [Martinez]. It was a significant challenge for Harry, and he deserves credit for his performance. We often take for granted the efforts of players, but for him to return and perform well after limited training time demonstrates his commitment. He was fantastic, and together with Licha, they formed a solid defensive unit that allowed us to build on that foundation.”

With reports suggesting that Maguire is increasingly likely to secure a new contract, clarity regarding his future at Old Trafford is anticipated in the coming months. If he can play a crucial role in helping the team qualify for the Champions League, the case for extending his contract will only strengthen.
