Mahmoud Dahoud s Resurgence at Eintracht Frankfurt A New Chapter in His CareerMahmoud Dahoud s Resurgence at Eintracht Frankfurt A New Chapter in His Career

omidbasir- Amidst the departures at Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, it seemed that Mahmoud Dahoud’s career was on the brink of another disappointing chapter. The former German international has faced significant challenges since his unsuccessful transfer to Brighton in the summer of 2023.

After struggling to secure a position with the Seagulls, Dahoud was loaned back to VfB Stuttgart for the latter half of the 2023/24 season. Although he managed to score as a substitute, he only started once under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.

Following the termination of his contract with Brighton, Dahoud joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. His arrival was marked by an emotional press conference, where he announced his return to the German national team after a brief and unsuccessful stint with Syria.

Under the guidance of head coach Dino Toppmöller, Dahoud began to receive consistent playing time. Both Toppmöller and sporting director Markus Krösche lauded his performance after an impressive start against VfL Bochum on matchday nine, where he scored a goal and provided an assist, signaling a potential comeback.

However, this promising moment turned out to be a fleeting one. Following that match in early November 2024, Dahoud started only twice more in the league and made just three brief substitute appearances throughout the 2025 calendar year.

After being cleared for departure and remaining largely inactive during the training camp, Dahoud was included in only one of Toppmöller’s initial matchday squads this year. Unexpectedly, he emerged as a midfield starter against Mainz on matchday 10.

He continued to start against Köln, where he played effectively in a solo defensive midfield role and scored his 14th career Bundesliga goal just before halftime. Journalists covering the Bundesliga have noted an unsettling sense of déjà vu regarding his performance.

As if echoing sentiments from a year prior, both Krösche and Toppmöller have again expressed high praise for Dahoud’s contributions. The question remains whether this recent resurgence is sustainable.

Regardless, it appears Dahoud will be afforded more opportunities moving forward. “He deserves it because he has simply kept at it over the last few months and has always been there for the whole group, despite his difficult situation,” Toppmöller shared in an interview with Sport Bild. “He always gave his all in training and never backed down. He already played a decent game against Mainz, and this time it was all the more satisfying that he had this sense of achievement.”

Krösche added, “He’s had bad spells in his career before and has learned to deal with them. I think that helps him a lot. He’s always given his all and made himself available. Now he’s been given his chance.”
