Dennis Beyer reports that Mainz 05 has formally submitted an offer for VfB Stuttgart’s outcast, Silas Katompa Mvumpa. As the January 2026 transfer window opens, the Congolese forward is also rumored to be a target for 2. Bundesliga team Hannover 96.

According to Beyer, Mainz’s proposal to Stuttgart was structured without a direct transfer fee, relying instead on performance-related bonuses that could be activated later this summer.

However, the offer was declined by Stuttgart, which is insisting on a €1.5 million transfer fee. Mainz, having recently invested €4 million in struggling Augsburg striker Phillip Tietz, could be open to negotiating this amount. Despite a series of personal and professional challenges, Silas remains a seasoned Bundesliga player with an estimated market value of €3 million, and he has netted 21 goals in Germany’s top league.

The likelihood of this transfer materializing is deemed high by Bundesliga journalists, as Mainz continues to benefit from a significant transfer surplus accumulated last summer. With the team currently at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, there is an urgent need for cost-effective attacking solutions. Silas, having regained fitness, presents a low-risk opportunity for Mainz.

Moreover, Silas is in the final year of his contract with Stuttgart, which has no plans for his involvement. During his recent loan spell at Red Star Belgrade, he demonstrated his scoring capabilities. In the 2023/24 season, he recorded seven goals and six assists across 30 appearances in various competitions.
