Manchester United capitalized on a red card issued to Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero to secure a 2-0 victory, preserving their perfect start under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Tottenham, now facing a relegation battle, has not tasted victory in their last seven Premier League matches, currently sitting 15th in the league and just six points above the relegation zone. Former England captain Wayne Rooney commented on the dire situation, stating, “With their current form, you’d have to say they are in a relegation battle. West Ham has been performing well, and Nottingham Forest is managing to secure results. It’s hard to ignore the precarious position they’re in, and they’ll certainly be looking over their shoulders.”

Romero was sent off during the first half at Old Trafford following a late challenge on Casemiro, marking his sixth dismissal while playing for Spurs. Rooney remarked, “I can see why the decision was made, but it feels somewhat harsh. Players sometimes lose their composure, and it seems Romero has a history of doing this at Tottenham.”

This incident followed shortly after Romero’s social media post criticizing the club’s management for having only 11 fit players during a recent match that ended in a 2-2 draw against Manchester City. Rooney noted, “Comments made just days prior about the lack of players certainly don’t help. While it’s commendable that he speaks his mind, performances must match those assertions, and unfortunately, he hasn’t delivered. Such situations only intensify the pressure on Thomas Frank.”

Rooney expressed sympathy for Frank, who transitioned from Brentford to Tottenham last summer after a successful seven-year tenure. “I feel for Thomas Frank; he appears fatigued and looks like he has aged ten years. The Tottenham job has taken a toll on him in a remarkably short time. I hope they choose to stick with him, as he is a fantastic manager, but the challenges ahead will be significant. They can’t afford to have their captain frequently receiving red cards or being as vocal as Romero was this week.”
