Manchester City Eyes Transfer for Crystal Palace Captain Marc GuehiManchester City Eyes Transfer for Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi

Marc Guehi has been capped 26 times for England since his debut in 2022.

Manchester City is emerging as a potential contender to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this month. According to BBC Sport, City is exploring a transfer for the England centre-back following injuries sustained by defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias during the recent draw against Chelsea. Additionally, English centre-back John Stones is currently sidelined due to injury.

City is awaiting further updates on the injuries to Gvardiol and Dias before making a definitive decision regarding their interest in Guehi during the ongoing transfer window. However, sources indicate that City’s interest in Guehi has intensified, and a move this January cannot be ruled out.

The 25-year-old defender is set to become a free agent this summer, leading to expectations that he would leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season. Nevertheless, the recent uptick in interest from City may alter the trajectory of Guehi’s future.

Various European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid, have also expressed interest in acquiring the defender on a free transfer. Current market regulations allow Guehi to sign a pre-agreement with an overseas club starting this month.

Last summer, Guehi came close to joining Liverpool for a reported fee of £35 million, but Crystal Palace ultimately canceled the deal in the final hours of the transfer deadline. Liverpool continues to show significant interest in Guehi, and it remains to be seen whether they will act on plans to secure him on a free transfer this summer.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are keen on acquiring Guehi without a transfer fee at the end of the season. It is understood that Crystal Palace would consider selling Guehi this month to prevent losing their captain for nothing at the end of the season.
