Manchester City has officially signed Ghana international Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a record-breaking deal valued at approximately £65 million.

This transaction marks a significant milestone for Bournemouth, as Manchester City activated Semenyo’s release clause ahead of the Saturday deadline. The payment structure comprises £62.5 million distributed over 24 monthly installments, in addition to performance-related bonuses.

Semenyo has signed a contract that extends until 2031 and will don the number 42 jersey, a number previously associated with Yaya Toure, who enjoyed a successful tenure at the club, winning three Premier League titles during his eight years.

“I am immensely proud to join Manchester City,” Semenyo remarked. “They embody the highest standards, featuring world-class players, exceptional facilities, and one of the greatest managers in Pep Guardiola. I believe there is significant potential for my growth here, making this an ideal opportunity at this stage of my career. It is truly a privilege to be a part of this esteemed club. I am confident that my best football is yet to come.”

The 26-year-old winger recently bid farewell to Bournemouth in style, scoring a stoppage-time winner in a thrilling 3-2 victory against Tottenham.

Semenyo’s impressive form at Bournemouth included four goals in his last six matches, positioning him third in the Premier League goalscoring charts for the season with a total of 10 goals from 20 appearances, trailing only his new teammate Erling Haaland (20) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (16).

He requires just one additional league goal to match his personal best for a single season, having netted 11 goals in 36 Premier League starts last term.

Bournemouth had acquired Semenyo from Bristol City for approximately £10 million in January 2023. He leaves the Cherries with a record of 32 goals and 13 assists from 110 appearances across all competitions.

Semenyo initiated his professional career in the Championship, recording 21 goals and 21 assists in 125 games for the Robins and had previous loan spells with Sunderland, Newport County, and non-league Bath City.

Following his transfer to Bournemouth on a four-and-a-half-year agreement, he signed a contract extension last summer that was set to last until 2030.
