Days after a disheartening performance at Old Trafford, where Pep Guardiola’s team was outclassed by Manchester United, Manchester City delivered another lackluster display, succumbing to a 3-1 defeat against Bodo/Glimt. The visitors found themselves trailing 2-0 at halftime, with both goals coming from Kasper Hogh. The match was effectively sealed in the 58th minute when Jens Petter Hauge produced a moment of brilliance, intercepting a pass from Rodri in midfield. He then outpaced the City midfielder before executing a stunning long-range strike to extend the lead to 3-0.

Compounding the team’s woes, Rodri received two yellow cards within a span of just 53 seconds, marking the first red card of his Champions League career. After Rayan Cherki managed to pull a goal back for City, Rodri was cautioned for a foul on Hakon Evjen in the 61st minute. Less than a minute later, he was sent off for a similar infringement. Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton commented on BBC Radio 5 Live, stating that Rodri had no grounds for complaint regarding his dismissal. He remarked, “Rodri pulls Blomberg back. Manchester City loses the ball, and he’s walking off now. He had to go. I don’t know how many seconds there were between the first and second one. It’s reckless from Rodri.”

On TNT Sports’ coverage, ex-Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison also criticized Rodri for his lack of judgment, noting, “Definite second yellow card as well. He grabs him around the neck, and I saw it coming a mile off. He’s got all the experience in the world, and he’s a tiny bit naive there. Now his team’s right in a hole. 53 seconds between the two yellows.”

Despite this 3-1 setback, City remains in a favorable position to automatically qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. However, this defeat could force them into the playoffs if results do not go in their favor. Following two consecutive losses, City’s forthcoming home match against Premier League bottom-dwellers Wolves on Saturday may prove to be even more challenging.
