Manchester United has officially signed Germany international Lea Schuller from Bayern Munich. The 28-year-old forward, who has committed to the club until June 2029, becomes the second signing of the January transfer window, following the addition of full-back Hanna Lundkvist.

During her five-year stint at Bayern Munich, Schuller made over 100 appearances and played a vital role in securing four league titles for the team. On the international stage, she has scored 54 goals in 82 appearances for Germany. Schuller was part of the squad that finished as runners-up at Euro 2022 and contributed to the team winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games.

“From the first conversations I had with [manager] Marc [Skinner] and the club, the ambitions of everyone here were very clear,” Schuller stated. “I still have so much that I want to achieve in my career, and I know that Manchester United is the perfect club to join. I believe that the team’s style of football will greatly complement my abilities. I hope my skills and experience can help us achieve our goals both in England and in the Champions League.”

Matt Johnson, the director of women’s football at Manchester United, remarked, “Lea’s goal-scoring record is phenomenal, and her style of play will bring an exciting new dimension to our attack. We are thrilled to welcome a player of her caliber to our team. Lea’s winning mentality and experience will greatly support our young and ambitious squad as we continue to develop and compete at both domestic and European levels.”

The club aims to be active during the transfer window, with manager Skinner seeking to strengthen the squad ahead of the knockout stages of the Women’s Champions League. Additionally, they have secured a contract extension with key midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who will remain with the club until the summer of 2029.

Ben Haines, Ellen White, and Jen Beattie are returning for another season of the Women’s Football Weekly podcast. New episodes will be available every Tuesday on BBC Sounds, along with interviews and additional content from the Women’s Super League and beyond on the Women’s Football Weekly feed.
