Manchester United Seeks Successor After Amorim s DepartureManchester United Seeks Successor After Amorim s Departure

Manchester United has officially parted ways with Ruben Amorim and is now in the process of identifying his successor. Reports indicate that the club is inclined to appoint a caretaker manager in the interim, with plans for a permanent replacement potentially slated for the summer. Among the names being considered is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former striker who served as head coach from 2018 to 2021.

Reflecting on his tenure at the club in 2025, Solskjaer expressed, “I felt privileged to be the manager of Manchester United, but of course it’s not the same as playing. As a player, your role is clear; as a manager, you become the face of the club, responsible for supporters, players, and the entire Manchester United environment.

“That pressure is a privilege because I was able to handle it in my own way, surrounded by great staff and a positive atmosphere at the club. Ultimately, however, what matters is results. Unfortunately, we went through a challenging six-week period, which is too long for a club of Manchester United’s stature, prompting the decision for a change, which I respect.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has made it clear that he cannot provide any insider information regarding potential moves away from the club. He stated, “I’m not allowed to bet; I don’t look at rumors. I can’t provide insider information. I am the manager of Crystal Palace, and it’s pointless to discuss the matter further.”

Glasner also commented on contract discussions, noting that contract length does not guarantee job security in the Premier League. Palace chairman Steve Parish acknowledged the current challenges in negotiating a new contract with Glasner, emphasizing the need for both parties to assess their futures during the season’s intense demands.

Parish remarked, “We’re navigating a tough stretch in the season. There’s no doubt Glasner wants to evaluate whether this is the right environment for him. I understand the fans’ desire for him to stay, and I share that sentiment. However, we must also prepare for alternative scenarios.”

In addition to Solskjaer, Manchester United is reportedly considering Michael Carrick for the interim managerial role until summer. Carrick made a strong impression at Middlesbrough, despite not achieving promotion, and has been out of a managerial position since his departure from the Riverside Stadium.

Former first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has cautioned the club to proceed with caution in selecting Amorim’s successor. He advised, “The club must avoid making another hasty decision to simply fill the void. They need to thoroughly evaluate their options.

“This situation transcends Ruben Amorim; it involves Ineos and the entire support team. There are significant questions concerning the club’s backing of their previous commitments. They should adopt a measured approach and ask, ‘What do we need to ensure that United returns to its traditional style and success?’

As United prepares for their first match under interim manager Darren Fletcher against Burnley on Wednesday evening, they currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, merely three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
