Hanna Lundkvist, the Swedish international right-back, has made 34 appearances for Atletico Madrid, the upcoming Champions League opponents of Manchester United.

Manchester United has officially finalized an agreement to sign Hanna Lundkvist. The 23-year-old player, who recently departed American club San Diego Wave, will join the Women’s Super League team on January 1, 2024, with a contract extending until June 2029.

Lundkvist has a commendable record, having started every match for Sweden during Euro 2025 and earning 17 international caps. She has previously played for clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Hammarby.

She will reunite with her Swedish teammates Anna Sandberg, Fridolina Rolfo, and Julia Zigiotti Olme at Manchester United. Lundkvist expressed her enthusiasm for competing in the Champions League and the Women’s Super League, which she regards as “one of the strongest leagues in the world.”

Currently sitting fourth in the WSL table, Manchester United will face Lundkvist’s former club Atletico in a knockout phase play-off scheduled for February.

“Engaging with [Manchester United head coach] Marc [Skinner] and the coaching staff affirmed all the positive things I have heard about the team’s culture here,” Lundkvist remarked.

Lundkvist marks the first signing in what manager Skinner has promised will be an “aggressive” transfer window for the club.
