Manchester United to Discuss New Contract with Kobbie MainooManchester United to Discuss New Contract with Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo has made 87 appearances and scored seven goals for Manchester United.

Manchester United is keen to resume discussions with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo regarding a new contract that would align his terms with those of his senior teammates.

Mainoo’s existing contract is set to expire in 2027, with an option for an additional year. However, no negotiations have taken place as of yet, and it remains uncertain how receptive Mainoo will be to a new agreement, especially given his well-documented interest in securing a loan move last summer.

Despite not having started any Premier League matches this season under coach Ruben Amorim, Mainoo had hoped to facilitate a loan transfer during the current transfer window. However, following Amorim’s departure, he has been welcomed back into the senior squad.

Interim manager Darren Fletcher included the 20-year-old in the FA Cup third-round defeat by Brighton earlier this month, and Mainoo retained his starting position for Michael Carrick’s inaugural match at the helm, where United achieved a convincing victory over City in last weekend’s Manchester derby.

Mainoo had signed a long-term deal in 2023, but discussions for a new contract were anticipated following his impactful contributions to United’s 2024 FA Cup final win over City, as well as his role in England’s Euro 2024 final against Spain.

Nevertheless, no agreement was reached at that time, and the treatment he received after Amorim’s arrival raised questions within the Mainoo camp regarding how the club perceives his value.
