Manu Fajardo, the sporting director of Real Betis, addressed the media from the Estadio Tumba, where his team is set to compete against PAOK of Thessaloniki this evening, aiming for three points to enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.

When asked about potential player acquisitions, Fajardo indicated that the club is open to bringing in a striker, provided there are outgoing transfers from the squad.

“Currently, we are working within the constraints of financial fair play to facilitate new signings. However, our priority is to first facilitate departures, and that is what we are focusing on at the moment,” Fajardo stated. “If we were to add a player to our attacking line, it must be someone who genuinely improves our current options, and we must be convinced of that. I can assure you that we will not bring in a reinforcement just for the sake of it.”

Fajardo refrained from providing a timeline for the return of Isco and Amrabat from their injuries, saying, “I hope it is soon; we must be very cautious and respectful regarding these matters. It is up to the medical team to determine the appropriate timeline. I would like to highlight the commitment that Sofyan has shown to Real Betis Balompié throughout this period, and I hope for a speedy recovery so he can return to the pitch as soon as possible.”

In closing, Fajardo underscored the significance of securing points against PAOK, which would help ease the schedule over the next two weeks: “Achieving a positive result would be a significant step forward, allowing us to position ourselves among the top eight, providing a break in the next round and preparing us adequately for the upcoming Copa final at home against Atlético, as well as the league matches ahead. We are playing every three days, and winning here would grant us some much-needed tranquility.”
